We have 2 new additions to the family - baby guinea pigs. We bought them yesterday and Lori is very excited - she has named them Dorothy and Poppy! They are very timid at the moment much to Lori's disappointment but I am sure they will soon settle down. I think they are going to end up very fat guinea pigs though because Lori wants to feed them all the time - she kept poking grass and vegetables thought their cage yesterday and this morning the first thing she said when she woke up was "come on mummy let's feed the guinea pigs".
I will say, I have had guinea pigs before, and I would definitely recommend them as a child's pet - they are very friendly and will just sit still on your lap and be stroked. I know rabbit's have tendencies to try and escape all the time. I have never known any of my guinea pigs to bite or scratch.

Re: New additions I remember your guinea pigs. I hope that you get as much enjoyment out of them as Lori does :) By rebekah22 on 25 June 2008 |
Re: New additions I have never kept a guinea pig. Do you keep them in the house or outside? By Melissa on 25 June 2008 |
Re: New additions we keep them outside. i believe you can keep them inside but personally, i don't really like the idea of having guinea pigs in my house. they have a large hutch plus a run for day times. By Nicola on 25 June 2008 |
Re: New additions They sound like they're already part of the family :) One of DS fish died yesterday. He didn't seem to notice that the replacement was a replacement though, although he's not looked all that closely. I hope that your daughter is as keen to help with the cleaning out as she is with the feeding Nicola By PennyK on 27 June 2008 |
Re: New additions She has been great so far at looking after them, including the cleaning out! Maybe the novelty will wear off soon though?! Lori got 2 fish for her birthday last year but they have both since died. It didn't seem to upset her, infact everytime we saw any friends or family for the following week or so she would announce "my fish died" with a big grin on her face?!! By Nicola on 27 June 2008 |
